MICROSOFT AND NOKIA reportedly will launch an Android-powered Lumia smartphone, following the launch of Nokia's X range earlier this year.
That's according to Evleaks, which coughed on Monday, vaguely, "Android-powered Lumia incoming, from Nokia by Microsoft."
Given the tipster's impressive track record of accurate leaks, especially related to Nokia smartphones, we're inclined to believe this rumour.
Evleaks has revealed nothing more about the mooted Nokia by Microsoft Android device, perhaps beyond confirming the branding that the firms likely will use on future devices.
However, However, with Nokia's Android-powered X smartphones filling a gap in the low-end smartphone market, it's likely that the firms are gearing up to launch a high specification Android device. Online murmurs are claiming that the yet unnamed device will continue the familar, colourful design of Nokia's Lumia smartphones, and likely will feature the Pureview camera technology found on the firm's present Windows Phone devices.
What is perhaps less clear is why the firms are plotting to launch an Android smartphone, given Microsoft's push of its homegrown Windows Phone software. However, like with Nokia's X smartphones, it's possible that the firm is looking to leverage its own apps and services, such as Onedrive and Xbox, by taking advantage of Google's Android mobile operating system.
This likely isn't all Microsoft and Nokia have got up their respective sleeves, as Windows Blog Italia revealed over the weekend that the firms are also gearing up to launch the so-called Lumia 830.
This device also comes with "Nokia by Microsoft" branding on its rear, and features a circular camera component similar to the Nokia Lumia 1020, although this apparently will feature a lesser 13MP sensor.
It's not presently clear when Microsoft and Nokia's mooted Android device, nor the Lumia 830, are likely to make their official debuts, and both firms have yet to comment on the speculation. µ
